Shit is my favorite 4-letter word (aside from ‘sale’). I have no idea why it is considered vulgar or obscene, none. No idea and Google is no help on that account. Via Wikipedia you can get all sorts of info on the word but not why it is objectionable – “Shit is a word generally considered to be vulgar and profane in Modern English. As a noun, it refers to fecal matter, and as a verb it means to defacate; in the plural (“the shits”), it means diaharrea. Shite is a common variant in British and Irish English As a slang term, it has many meanings, including: nonsense, foolishness, something of little value or quality, trivial and usually boastful or inaccurate talk or a contemptible person. It could also be used to refer to any other noun in general or as an expression of annoyance, surprise or anger.”
Now the F-word – that I find objectionable, nor do I understand why stand-up comedians must use it every other word – noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection – every part of speech is represented. I think it is the ‘k’ sound – harsh, hard, explosive. It is just not a nice sounding word. I don’t like to say it or hear it.
I ‘ve heard shit bleeped but not the f-word – why is that? Anyone? Answers? Thoughts? Explanations? Anything?
