There was a comment on a recent post that was mostly nonsensical and a tad incoherent which I actually allowed to stay and responded to. I wasn’t sure if it was from one of my snarky friends or not – turns out it wasn’t.
Today I do believe that same person posted a comment on yesterday’s post (the pumpkin spice poem) that was just totally off the wall. It was only up for about 15 minutes when I saw it, marked it as spam and deleted it. Some folks might have found it offensive, I just found it – nucking futz.
I think this is the first time in the 20 or so years I’ve been blogging that I’ve had weird comments. There was that one person who started out perfectly fine and then devolved into – I don’t know quite how to describe it – but I ended up blocking them after an exchange that went along the lines of them saying “You know you make it hard to be your friend” and me replying “Who asked you?” Ehh…
So I’m trying to decide whether I should start moderating comments. I don’t think it would be too big a deal, I don’t post that often and like 5 people read the blog…Of course that means I will have to see any further comments from this wing-nut and I’m not to sure I want to.
There are two people that comment regularly who can only access the comment function as “anonymous” so if I disallow anonymous comments it shuts them out.
OTOH – I’m too old for this shit. I don’t need or want any drama, of any kind, in my life.
What the hell is wrong with people? Yeah, I know a rhetorical question because who the hell has the time to answer that one.
When it comes to comments, I do believe that some people have far too much time on their hands. I haven't had one in a long time but there have been ones that get all bent out of shape about something I write and they feel obligated to put me in my place.

You're right about that – I like a nice discussion but this person is, as I said, nucking futz!

I've had enough wackos over the years to make me cautious. I don't allow comments from Anonymous. I don't accept comments from someone who only has an email address attached to their name– unless I know the person. I moderate everyone's first comment, then decide if a person can comment freely OR if that person needs to await my approval. [Sometimes WP does this moderation thing and not me. Don't know why.]

I've never had a problem with wack-a-doos – until now. It will be interesting to see if they turn up again. I took moderation off because some folks can't comment at all if I have it on – Google and Blogger just won't have it. Such a PITA. I've got an empty WP blog and I guess I'll double post so WP readers can have a say if they want.

Gosh that is great that you haven't had many. I've had enough for us both and then some! I never used to moderate then I did for awhile. It's a crap shoot Grace.

Whenever I think I have someone figured out, they do something totally off the wall to prove that nope, I can't figure them out! I am fascinated with what makes people tick but the people behind the keyboard that leave odd comments or send spam emails to con people, that's a whole other level that I can't wrap my brain around! I am sorry to hear that you had to block one of your commenters after their rude exchange about it being hard to be your friend. That was totally uncalled for and if they knew you at all, very untrue.

I don't think it happened as much back in the day. I just had that one crazy woman stalking me LOL I read your post today, I'm not sure if it's good news or not or what is exactly is going on with your eye – it hasn't sounded very pleasant (to put it mildly) but if it's better then I'm happy to hear it.

Oh do we ever figure anyone out – humans are a constant surprise – sometimes to the good and sometimes not. Spammers are just crooks, trolls are just – I don't know – crazy? As for the woman I had to flip off – Wow it was getting weird, she was basically stalking me and also just saying things that were pissing me off. When I replied to one of her comments that I didn't ask for, or need, or even appreciate her “advice” is when I got that “hard to be your friend” She had asked for my home address several times, which I ignored. Also my phone number! WTH! Then when I had switched to WP for a while she commented she would follow me anywhere – I'm sorry that is all just not normal.

I support your decision either way. All your regular followers are respectful because you have a queen-like air that demands respect (like grace slick) and obviously people who are easily offended would not follow you in the first place. It would not bother me to lose the ability to comment here. As I only recently started putting up with this Google comment section and commenting semi-regularly. If I was burning to talk to you, I would just reply to you in a wordpress post :). Sorry to hear you had to deal with a creeper. -Melissa Pumpkin

Aww, you are sweet (sometimes I think you like me just because my name is Grace LOL) Admittedly I have been called an Ice Queen but we won't get into that. I am double posting now – here and on WP – so you can have your pick – same nonsense in both places – the link is in the above post or HERE. We can tawk wherever you like.
