I’m so excited!

When my husband became ill at the beginning of the year and I was totally overwhelmed with caring for him and having no family or support system here our daughter brought up that perhaps we should think about moving closer to her. I mentioned that I had been looking at CCRC’s here and she suggested looking in Vermont near her.

Then she brought up the possibility of she and her husband buying a house with an in-law suite. I LOVED that idea. We talked about the financing and that is not a problem since my husband and I could put down a substantial down payment and pay half the monthly mortgage amount or close to.

She and her husband own a home but it is way out there and the commute is a killer and they really want to move closer to Burlington.ย  We all like this idea – it’s a win-win for everyone plus of course having a built-in babysitter (me!)

With my husband’s diagnosis still in flux the whole project was put on hold. Well, my husband’s MRI came back with nothing to worry about so I immediately texted our daughter that if she still wants to do the house thing, health-wise it’s a go for us.

So the search is on! It’s gonna take a while but it seems we will be moving! Yay!

Granted Vermont is not my first choice of a place to live but Paris is out of the question and needs must. At our ages and health challenges we need some sort of support system. Since our daughter offered we would be fools not to take them up on it. I may be a lot of things but stupid isn’t one of them.

I’m so excited!

      1. I like snow and cold if it results in beauty, as in Alaska where I am from. In Washington State right now there is snow on the ground and it’s 30 out, but it’s that god-awful heavy wet snow that is not particularly fluffy and beautiful…

      2. Incidently, my lady was considering Vermont as a potential place to live ๐Ÿ™‚ she and I plan on checking if out at some point. I know nothing about the east coast so it would be an adventure for me.

        1. Vermont is a crunchy granola state – that would be the flatlander influence, the native woodchucks are a pretty laid back group of people, Vermont is very rural and people tended to mind their own business but lend a hand when it was needed – but that was then…don’t know how it is now.

  1. Wonderful news all around. We love Vermont and usually take a week long vacation there every fall. Been to Burlington many times. When you get settled be sure and visit Shelburne Farm and museum. Itโ€™s amazing!

    1. I lived in Vermont before – up in the Northeast Kingdom and then later in Burlington and a stop of two in between…I can’t say that I love Vermont but – needs must. It will be nice to be close to the grandchildren.

        1. Burlington is busy? Compared to the rest of Vermont I guess so. I thought of it as a charming small town. Not as small as Derby Line – where I landed directly from NYC – talk about culture shock!

          1. Itโ€™s busy for Vermont! And I landed on an Island in Maine from New Jersey so Iโ€™m with you on the culture shock. The only way off was by boat and I felt like it was the end of the earth. But now? I relish the peace and quiet and could never enjoy city living again.

            1. Oh my! I don’t think I would have liked that. While I don’t think I would care to live in NYC again, for practical reasons, I still crave and relish and need the busyness of an urban area – so a small city or a big town is my preference. City energy makes me dance.

  2. This sounds like a wonderful idea and I’m happy the process has started! It’ll be so fun for you to be with your granddaughters! Exciting news indeed!
