The original song and lyrics were written by Jacques Brel. The English lyrics were written by Rod McKuen. I researched the song a bit and it seems the English lyrics are more than a bit different and take a different tone (the difference described here).
While I heard Neil Diamond in my head while I was in the shower, now I hear Charles Aznavour and the inimitable Edith Piaf…J’adore

That is why I put the direct link underneath the video. I often get a “Youtube is blocked” message when trying to play a video. The videos I embed will play for me but others do not. Try the url link – pretty songs…

I’ve always liked Neil Diamond but I don’t think I’ve ever heard him sing that one.

I don’t think it’s one of his more popular songs especially since he didn’t write it. But I’ve always liked it and I’m familiar with the many many versions of it,
