I know I said

that I would try to post something, anything, everyday and then it all got away from me because…

Two days ago I was going to post about a book I was reading that I was going to complain about and then – took about 30 pages or so and I was hooked.

Every minute I can grab away from my duties and obligations I’m reading.  It kills me to piss away almost 3 hours every night watching television with my husband when I could be doing something more constructive – like read my book.

The format is not one I care for – each chapter covers the same events basically but from a different character’s point of view – Hate that. You have to keep track of a time frame and what the character “reported” in their previous chapter. Also too, the book is something like 510 pages and you know I am not fond of, and generally avoid, books over 350 pages.

And yet here I am – totally immersed and engaged.

The book is “Hello Beautiful” by Ann Napolitano.

Somewhere in the past I spoke favorably about her previous book “Dear Edward” and based on that book I took this one out from the library. I don’t know what it is about her books that captivate me – I start out not being a fan and 30 or so pages in, maybe more, I am . To say it is the writing is facile because how can you describe good writing? And yet…the flow of words and story brings you in and keeps you there.

Gotta go – clothes need to go from washer to dryer and then I get to read for a few minutes…

    1. I have to admit some of the books I like are peculiar Matrix by Lauren Groff is still the most amazing book I’ve read in a long while but it certainly would not be everyone’s cup of tea.

          1. Yeah and it had good reviews. The bad reviews were petty and based on something stupid. I need a good novel so I’ll check it out on Amazon soon and if I read it I will let you know what I think.

  1. I’ve heard of this book recently so hearing about it again in this post, I’ve added it to my list! There’s usually a reason the Universe keeps telling me something!

Can there be a compromise where you’re in the room with G while he watches tv and you can do something you enjoy like reading?

    1. I don’t think this book is worth all the hype, it is just published and getting a lot of play. I took it out because I enjoyed her previous book. It’s engaging because it is well written and a bit of a tear-jerker and most of the characters are likable.

I can’t be in the same room with the tv on even if George is wearing headphones – it is distracting. I have a lifetime habit of being alone. Lord would I like to live alone!

  2. I’ve started taking my kindle to work with me again so that I can read on my lunch. If a book doesn’t grab me real quick I tend to quit after the first chapter. Sometimes I’ll force myself to finish. Some get better but most just seem to drag on forever and never seem to end.

    1. I have learned the joy of DNF (did not finish). I give a book maybe 3 chapters (sometimes less, sometimes 3 pages LOL) to catch my attention before dumping it. When I was young if I started a book I felt obligated to finish it with age I realize I don’t have the time for that shit.
